Taking a walk after the rain
My mom made a cool scavenger hunt for the girls with pictures from previous trips, clip art, and nature pics so the girls could hunt as we went on hikes & walks. We figured out that Madison is the most observant - she could spot things from a mile away.
One evening we hiked to a scenic overlook - the waterfall was only a trickle but it was a great boardwalk trail that was perfect for little hikers.
I think it's sweet how Anna was careful to hold Mae's hand so that she wouldn't get too close to the edge. Knowing Mae, she'd go cliff diving if given the chance.
Our second morning was cloudy & perfect for fishing. Madison caught a fish on her first cast, and all the girls got at least one before we were done - even Mommy.
After fishing we rented paddleboats - Anna was really good at peddling & Madison helped steer. Mom & Dad paddled with Mae.
The most excited activity this camping trip was swimming. The park had a huge pool & we took the girls each afternoon. The made HUGE strides in their swimming. Mae was swimming underwater for a good 3 or 4 feet and could also flip to her back. Amazingly, with some help from a really big shallow end & tips from Dingdaddy - ANNA LEARNED TO SWIM! We've been trying for the past 3 summers to accomplish this, so we were all thrilled. She keeps her eyes & nose out, but can make it all the way across the pool now, even over the deep end.
Three adults plus three little fishes plus three hours of swim time equals lots of swim turns. They all did awesome!
We brought lots of things to keep them entertained in the campsite - we painted rocks, made playdough creatures, painted with glitter paint, played UNO, go fish, Cadoo, glowsticks, and leapsters.
Anna's favorite activity at camp was trying to capture an animal to take home as a pet. She seriously become obsessed with the idea & spent lots of time on elaborate plans. She made a trap that she called a "bunny habitat" with rubbermade containers, carrots, grass, and beach towels. She tried to lure them out of any hole she found in the ground with carrots, and always walked around camp with a "leash" (clothesline) in case she came across an animal. Here she is one morning chasing after a bunny with a "trap" in her nightgown. Someone has got to get that poor girl a pet!
Aren't these the cutest campers ever? Thanks so much Grammy & Dingdaddy for entertaining, hiking, playing games, giving up your air conditioned bed in the trailer, swimming, fishing, & working your tails off in the heat so that these nature lovers could enjoy their week!
The proof! This was actually the first day & she got much better. Yesterday she swam all the way across Aunt Julia's pool & got to go to the dollar store for a prize. Of course, she picked a cat toy to try to lure an animal into our house. Oh my. We are so proud of our swimmers!

Looks like so much fun. I that the park you guys went to sounded like one I had been to but I just could not remember. When I saw your pics. I remember going with my parents in law the summer of Noah's first bday. I remember the overlook being amazing and loving that there was a pool. I am so excited about Anna. I know that is something you'd been wrestling with.
