Meet the BEAST. The jury is still out on this new to us camper trailer. We want to love it. So badly want to love it. I think we will get there. So far though, this very fun purchase has been terribly jinxed. As I said before on my last camping post, our days in the pop up were numbered. Too many rainy weekends & 3 growing kids = mama was losing her mind. After the last camping trip we decided that we would rent a trailer the next time so that we wouldn't swear off camping forever. We really want to continue making these memories with our kids. Camping is an awesome way to get away from our fast paced life, enjoy what God has made in nature, & unplug from technology. I asked Tom to check with his friend that was selling his trailer on FB what he got for it so we would have a fair price in mind if we ever decided to buy, & surprisingly, it was still for sale. Since we were headed to San Antonio where this old college friend lived that very weekend, we discussed, prayed, researched, & finally decided after checking it out to buy it. The kids were over the moon & we were both really excited about how much easier this would make our future camping trips despite the weather. That's when the trouble started.
To make this long story even longer... we slowly pulled it home (took over 7 hours), got terrible gas milage, sweating every time we had to stop for gas or potty breaks because Tom had never pulled something so long. We parked it in front of the house & started THREE days of constant phone calls looking for a storage facility with space. Dozens & dozens of calls. 2 failed parking attempts. Who knew? North Texans have too many big toys apparently.
We finally got it parked at a kind of questionable place not close to home, found out the next day that it had to be inspected to get it registered, pulled it back out for inspection, reparked it, found a new place to store it, discovered a major flat, got that fixed, pulled it to the new location, then dented the side & broke the electrical plug squeezing into the new spot. What. in. the. world?
We are thankful that our one outing in it - staying in a RV park in College Station over Easter weekend, was successful & without event. My whole family stopped by to check it out & we all fit inside - it's a mansion compared to the pop up! We initially thought that the fridge didn't work but we were just out of propane. Easy fix. We are praying that our next trip goes as smoothly - we really want to love you new camper!
I was a terrible Easter photographer. In my defense, we got ready in the camper, so there were no cute picture backgrounds. Soon after getting to my parents after church we realized that the camper had to be checked out of the RV park so we hustled over there... we weren't going to dump the sewer & hitch up in our church clothes! Plus, it was raining of course - we were sort of camping after all! It was a great weekend despite the lack of cute pictures.
