We had a fun labor day weekend... no major plans, just lots of family time. Along with one last (cold) swim in our neighborhood pool, we tried out two new things. The first, learning to ride bikes without training wheels, was a big flop. Mae has been begging for weeks for Tom to take hers off, but Anna had no desire to try again after falling off ONCE two years ago in her last attempt. Long memory, that one. We headed to a football practice field that a friend recommended, and Mae was happy for the first few minutes. Soon after this smiling picture she got scared & never regained her confidence. Anna decided to try again once we got there, but she was terrified of going fast or us letting go so no real progress was made. Tom's back was killing him & I felt like I was going to send myself into early labor so we called it quits. Maybe the girls will be attempting this skill again in junior high.
Our second new activity was a big hit thankfully. I had read on a college friend's blog about geocaching - a combination of hiking & treasure hunting. We did some online research, downloaded a GPS app to our iPhones & gave it a shot on Saturday morning. We found two of the four "caches" that we tried to locate, and the girls were totally sold. Playing outside, going on an adventure, and dollar store prizes are right up their ally. They begged to go again so we made our second trip on Monday morning. We found 3 of the 5 treasure boxes & the girls were thrilled with their loot. If you look in the second to last picture you can see Anna's favorite/inappropriate prize. She really wanted the "little glass" in the box, so we let her trade for it (you leave a treasure & choose one for yourself). It's a Patron shot glass. Hope that is not chosen for any upcoming show & tell days at school.

O.K.!!!!!!!! Now I know!! :) I saw you the other day at church and you looked pregnant but I didn't know for sure. :) I am SO behind on blog reading that I hadn't heard.
Well, that is just AWESOME!! AND A BOY!!!!! That is just too great. Of course that's my order of doing things, too! :) I'll tell you, Isaiah was so perfect for the first two years of his life that we called him "angel boy". He's still easy but he was THE BEST baby/toddler ever. I hope your #3/first boy is the same! :)
Does it make you feel better to know that NONE of the Vaughn boys are independent bike riders yet? Tyler has had the most practice, but we just haven't made it a priority to get out there and really learn (probably has something to do with the back pain thing you referred to with Tom!! We are lazy people around here!) Too cute. And if they never learn to ride a bike it will be no big deal. Peer pressure will probably win out and convince Anna that it's ok! he!
