My girls had a great visit with my mom this week. They enjoyed showing off their swimming tricks and playing in the playroom with her until their hearts content. In the video above Anna is sliding down a little slide at a nearby community pool. We didn't do swim lessons with her this summer because we tried for two summers to conquer her fear of getting water on her face to no success. We decided that we both (her & I!) needed a break this summer from the emotional drama. She's still made strides this summer though... she started out in June only swimming in a ring floatie, but after tons of hours at our neighborhood pool she'll now play without floaties in neck deep water, ride around on a noodle like it's a horse, paddle around in arm wings (even though they barely keep her head above water), lay on her back getting her ears in with arm wings on, and do semi-splashy things like jumping off the side of the pool with a floatie on and going down baby slides like this one.
She did get very brave one day at Julia's pool and jump in the just a noodle, totally submerging herself, even after she saw her friends doing it & knew that she'd go under. We were shocked by the moment of bravery, but she has assured us that it won't happen again. :) We'll have to decide next summer how much we want to push lessons again, but for this year we've had a blast just watching her totally enjoy herself at the pool.
Mae is much more cautious this year, which is a good thing since last year she repeatedly tried to drown herself at every pool outing. She won't just step off into deep water, but she does like to sit down on the middle step or middle of the baby pool and let her whole face go under before standing back up (the water wasn't that deep in this pool clip). I think next year lessons will be easy for her.

I loved the part of the video were Mae was trying to go underwater, but it was too shallow. She was still super proud of herself!!
